The Octavia was first sold in the UK in 1998 and was the model which showed Skoda could be a serious player in the Western market. The first generation car was a popular alternative to cars like the Mondeo and Vectra due to lower costs and impressive reliability. The high performance vRS was widely used by the police thanks to its performance, with an understated appearance making it the ideal unmarked patrol car. The second generation car appeared in 2004 and has since been facelifted, with the Octavia remaining Skoda's biggest seller having secured numerous awards over the years.

Surprising package

As I complete a lot of motorway mileage, I needed a company car that was going to be comfortable for long journeys, not hit me too hard in tax and give me the most for my money.I looked at the usual rep cars like the Mondeo, the Insignia but then realised I could get an Octavia vRS instead - giving me a bit more performance than some of the other cars that were options.
The idea of driving a Skoda was a bit off-putting but the car has exceeded all of my expectations. The performance is great, the car hasn't missed a beat and still feels as 'tight' as when I drove it for the first time.
I'm so impressed that when the time comes to swap this for a new car, I'll not even consider something else. I'm converted!
