After the demise of MG Rover in 2005, MG Motor UK was formed by the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation to bring one of the most famous names in British motoring back to life. Originally known as NAC MG UK Limited – NAC standing for the Nanjing Automobile Corporation, which had secured the after MG Rover's collapse – the company was renamed when NAC merged with Shanghai Automotive. While vehicles are manufactured in China, final assembly takes place at the former MG Rover plant in Longbridge, Birmingham.
