The Insight is Honda's hybrid model and first hit the roads in 2000 - three years after the J-VX concept car it was based on was displayed at the Tokyo motor show. The original three-door hatchback featured just two seats, with the electric batteries positioned behind the seats, while the car also featured a 'skirt' covering the rear wheels; a design feature which split opinion. The first generation car ended production in 2006 with the second generation Insight arriving in 2009. Unlike the original car, the new Insight is a five-door hatchback, with Honda feeling the larger car is better suited to the European market.
