The Honda CR-V is a compact SUV that has been in production since 1996. Loosely based on the same platform as the Civic, the CR-V is now in its third generation in the UK, with the fourth generation car due to launch in 2012. Capable of carrying five adults in comfort, the car features a fold flat seating system to give a large luggage bay, while also featuring a two-tier boot which includes a shelf that allows valuables to be stored out of sight. Amongst the numerous safety features are adaptive front lights, which turn by up to 20 degrees as the car turns to improve visibility. and is loosely derived from the Honda Civic. Originally introduced to compete against the Toyota RAV4. Since being released in the US the CR-V sales have outpaced those of the smaller RAV4.

CRV family diesel wagon

Had this car a few years now. Superb performance from the intelligent 4wd (cuts in when needed but runs as 2wd mainly) in snow and poor weather. Good ground clearance. Has held its value pretty well also. We have a black one with full black leather and a moon roof. The roof does not open (so don't buy one thinking it does!) but gives extra light during the wintery months. Generally the load space is excellent. Two tiers in the boot with a dog cage allows for one dog and double pram in the lower half. We compared the S-Max, Kuga and others in the same price bracket and £ for £ this came out top. Drives like a car despite feeling big. Has a safe presence on the road and the all important 5* Ncap safety rating. Fits three adults comfortably in the back seats which also tilt back in pitch for comfort. Heated front electric seats, good sat nav and excellent standard sound system. Hard to fault it as a daily general driver.
Servicing is cheap enough from Honda and only cost us about £500 a year to extend the warranty with Honda. Money well spent if you ask me.
We see around 35-40 mpg around town from the 2.2 cdti honda engine and 45mpg+ loaded with kids and dog on a run.
Good reliable and solid car. Would buy again.
No faults during ownership, apart from a piece of interior trim that came away. Replaced under warranty while we waited.
The only real downside is we have used a set of tyres every 12,000 miles and only 3 tyre manufacturers supply the size. Pirelli, Dunlop and Kuhmo. All pretty expensive at around £130.00 a tyre.
