I had this car for 3 years and 40k miles.

Good points:

It's big ,I mean massive. I've rented smaller apartments! Comfortable seats, very good ride quality, communicative steering, well thought out ergonomics, excellent climate control, refined powerful 2 litre turbodiesel engine with no lag, economical for a large family car. I averaged about 40 -45 mpg Great value for money.

Bad points.

Some of the cabin plastics are not of the highest quality, it did creak quite a bit when mounting a kerb, and I didn't have that hewn from granite build quality that you would get in a Passat. You would really need parking sensors. Rain drips into the boot when opened, but you learn to open the boot slowly to prevent this. At motorway speeds water from the windscreen flows onto the driver's window which obscures the drivers view of the wing mirror, not Ideal for lane changing. The engine developed a flat spot around 2000 rpm but this disappeared over time, Wing mirrors are a tad on the small side and I had a few minor niggles, mainly random warnings on the display, however, it never left me stranded. They were always faults that you could put off until the next service

I would definitely have another.

I brought the car second hand with 70k on the clock.

The car looks great with the ST bodykit on and goes as good as it looks. The 2.2 diesel engine easily averages 50mpg on motorways (probably more if driven in a more economic manner!) and around town around 32mpg.

In the cabin the seats are very comfortable and it has a lot of standard features including a Sony 6 CD multichanger heated seats climate control, auto wipers and lights. It is also very spacious and has a massive boot.

I have had a few little niggles with the car including the alarm kept going off for no reason (faulty bonnet catch was the problem) and the EGR valve cause an engine management light to come on but a clean of it has so far cleared the problem.

The performance is very good and the 6 speed manual box ensures that motorway cruising is very economical. I would happily buy another one of these cars just wish they made an ST version in the new style

I was recovering from a cardiac arrest when it was time to change cars, so my wife chose our next car, a two-year-old 1.8 petrol Mondeo. Well, under the circumstances, she'd hardy choose a Lotus or an MG, would she? For some reason, all my girlfriends have always liked driving large cars, so she, despite being quite diminutive, chose the Mondeo. It drove well, had a comfortable ride, never broke down, and travelled effortlessly along the motorways to France (my wife is from Lille in North Eastern France) And there was always plenty of space for holidaying in some remote gite in France, with all the luggage in the boot and the wine on the back seat, and the kids in the roof-box.

I have only two real criticisms of the car (and one of me). It did seem to attract bumps and scrapes whilst parked in our drive and in car parks (it was a metallic blue called Amparo Blue – I often wondered who thought that one up). Its other problem was that the front doors would continuously leak water, so you had to drive wearing Wellington boots, which made it, look as if you had really wanted to buy a Land Rover all along. And me? Well, it's my legs now, so our new car is a sit-up-and-beg Ford C-Max. Diesel.

Don't worry, my next car will be my final fling. Probably a bright canary yellow MG, and then it's Nissan Micras for the rest of my life.
