The original version of the Fiat Punto was first launched in 1993, initially as a three and five door hatchback and then as a two-door convertible. Having won European Car of the Year in 1995, the Punto was given a revamp with the launch of the second generation model in 1999, which in turn was given a further facelift in 2003. The Grande Punto then replaced the original Punto in 2005.

Poor student looking for wheels?
4/5
1996 (P)
If you are a student and need a cheap runaround then this is the car to have. Cheap to run, cheap to insure = plenty of cash left over to spend in the Students Union!

My little Punto isn't the newest car on campus, it isn't the coolest but it hasn't broken down and it gives me more independence than most of my mates. Be honest, would you want to take a weeks shopping from Asda home on the bus?

The car only has a 1.1 litre engine but its comfortable cruising on the motorway and despite only being a three door, there is plenty of space inside to get four people in. You might just struggle to get all their luggage in as well as the boot isn't massive, but then again you wouldn't expect it to be in a small car. Comfort wise, it's no Rolls Royce, but I've done a long run down the motorway in when going home and not felt like a cripple when I got to the other end.

Reliability wise, despite the age of the car, it starts every time and hasn't had any problems - touch wood! It doesn't use much petrol, which is good, and even when you go 'into the red' it seems to go on forever (I don't recommend taking on this challenge as I know I will lose at some point).

It's not my dream car and it's not something that helps pulling the girls (Hey there, wanna come for a ride in my Punto doesn't tend to impress) but I've got a soft spot for the little Fiat and can't imagine uni life without it!
