I would strongly advise against this car.
Had it for 3 months as a courtesy car and found it to be:

*Fiddly - too many features that have been designed in isolation, each OK on their own but together annoying.
*Poor Accelleration.
*Only average fuel consumption (despite having stop/start)

We are lucky to have this car as a spare run around and to be honest it doesn't get used that much, which is a shame as it is such a great little motor.

My main car is a new M3 so it takes alot for me to be impressed when I drive anything else. The 123d though definitely has a place in my heart. I occasionally take the 1 series out of the garage for a run to keep it happy, however I normally end up driving it all week. This car is very nibble and for a diesel that's saying something. The 204bhp and high torque this motor puts out its great fun to drive. Add to that its low centre of gravity and it handles as well as my M3.

On the downside it is only a three door version so access to the rear seats is restricted. We have two children still in car seats so it's a bit of a struggle to reach back and get them strapped in. Also we have the M Sport version, which has some sexy body trimming, larger alloys and leather interior - amongst other things. One reason I don't drive this all the time is that we didn't have heated seats put in and in the winter its bloody cold. I image though the summer will see the 'Oner' coming out more if the wife hasn't made me sell it by then!

Get one!

I absolutely love my 1 Series! Going from a small 1.25 Ford Fiesta to the BMW was a big jump and I was a bit nervous about the change from a front wheel drive car to real wheel drive. As I had heard some scary stories! But the digital traction control in the 1 Series is amazing! I can hardly tell the difference that it is wheel drive and the car sticks to the road and handles really well!

I have the 118i which is a 2.0 litre petrol model. The fuel consumption is good and the average MPG is 36 and generally I get about 360 miles out of 45 litres... The efficient dynamics plays a part in this, offering auto start stop technology as well as the optimum shift indicator. This tells you which gear to be in for the most efficient fuel usage!

I don't have the M model but I have the Dynamic & Comfort packs, the dynamic pack adds sports suspension, sport racing front seats and 17 inch alloys. And the Comfort pack adds a centre arm rest, extra storage on the dash board, front and rear parking sensors, as well as an auto dimming rear view mirror, rain sensor wipers and auto headlights! Having all these extras is fantastic and not having to worry about turning on the headlights or wipers is a sweet!

My brother said that once I have had a BMW, id never wanna drive anything else... And he is right! The BMW really is the ultimate driving machine and makes driving an absolutely pleasure!
